Thanks to all who answered my query about TCP/IP support for SysV Unix (did I forget to mention we're looking at a Vax on a local Ethernet?). The consensus on AT&T support is that they are working on it as part of the streams I/O package; it may be in SysVr3. The most optimistic date mentioned is Spring of 1986. Several other companies were mentioned as being worth looking into; the information I got doesn't lend itself to comparisons, so I'll just list them: Excelan (San Jose, CA) The Wollongong Group (S.F. Bay Area) CMC (Santa Barbara, CA?) Uniq (Batavia, IL) -- Uniq has their own sVr2 kernel Unisoft (Berkeley, CA) -- this one may not be for VAXen; the letters referred to 68000 machines. If anyone wants a copy of the responses I got, let me know and I'll ship you the bunch (about a dozen). I'm going to ship it upstairs to my boss and let him decide what to do with it. Whatever happened to the Woologong Group code that was going to be distributed by AT&T??? (There was a big announcement of this last summer, and it was in beta-test and pre-release test, etc in october). On the other hand, I'd rather have the streams implementation. -- David Herron, cbosgd!ukma!david, david@UKMA.BITNET. Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
