Does HP-UX currently have job control like 4.2BSD so that you can stop and start processes, etc ? HP is apparently going to provide TCP/IP with HP-UX within the next few months. Does anyone know if the implementation will be compatible with 4.2BSD and will include the 4.2 IPC (sockets) and all the network-related 4.2 programs (rlogin, rsh, etc) ? But they also told me that there was a decision *not* to release TCP/IP until sometime near the end of '86 when the rest of the networking package was ready. This seemed amazingly stupid to me, so I asked the salespeople if they were really sure what they were telling me was correct. They insisted it was. Sounds to me like H/P is making a big mistake and is getting left more and more in the dust. -- Roy Smith <allegra!phri!roy> System Administrator, Public Health Research Institute 455 First Avenue, New York, NY 10016

Yes I agree that HP seems stupid and slow. They are pretty much in the same place with the TCP/IP package for their HP-3000's. I have a need to tie the 3000 to our Pyramid. They "might" offer tcp/ip "soon". It is unclear what services will be provided. Sales people know very little about it. Sounds like they may not be compatable with services in the rest of the 4.2bsd (or anywhere else but HP) world. Bob Berger Datacube Inc. 4 Dearborn Rd.
