I think that Queen Mary College in London have done some work in the field that you're asking about. Stopping students grabbing too much disk space is moderately simple using the Unix disk quotas system. Thanks for all your replies. I did reply personally to each one but most of them got bounced back to me. Until I've found out why I thought I'd better thank you here. As a new Unix'er I get masses of conflicting information so you've all been a great help. Trading execution speed for space ? Hmm .... I do want to live ! It's an interesting idea though. I don't know about UNIX systems but some systems do slow down as they're running out of space at which point Sys Admin has to do a lot of work chasing people about their files. This idea helps pass the responsibility on to the users. -- *==============================================================================* * Linda Birmingham. | * * Computer Centre | Voice: +44 895 74000 Ext 2561 * * Brunel | ARPA: linda%ee.brunel.ac.uk@ucl-cs.arpa * * The University of West London | * * Uxbridge | UUCP: ...!ukc!ee.brunel.ac.uk!linda * * UB8 3PH | * * UNITED KINGDOM | JANET: linda@uk.ac.brunel.ee * *==============================================================================*
