are all you UNIX doubters listening out there? thanks, levy, for expressing these well thought-out responses to this poor vms orphan. UNIX is here for a reason, and that reason is because people like you and me PREFER it over everything else out there -- not because some vendor is shoving down everybody's throats as their 'vision' of computing! portability is indeed a valid issue and the dominance of C is just beginning. i never have taken BASIC seriously and probably never will -- fortran, and pascal... well, why use them when C does it all? the UNIX revolution is truly proving out all of the points that all of its advocates have been touting for years. you really can't argue with an operating system that was designed to be portable and that runs on almost every cpu on earth. one day soon, dec will come to this realization. and on that day, i will smile! rick barrett convex!smu!rab
