Thanks very much for all the helpful responses to this
posting.  Most of the responses referenced Transcript,
from Adobe. Some of the responses referenced different 
public-domain software posted on the net.

I am now in the process of trying to convince
the powers that be into plunking down the bucks for
Transcript.
