Keywords: I've just recieved a 68020 board from IO Inc. to review for AmigaWorld. Since it's a prerelease, it took some doing to get it working, but I'm quite impressed with it so far. A company called Synergy Microsystems is considering doing a port of Unix to the Amiga equipped with this 68020. However, they are concerned about what the market for such a product would be. Since I am personally very excited about this idea, I offered to ask around and see what sort of interest there was in this idea. If I can present some positive results to Synergy, they will do the port. They estimate it would take somewhere around 45 to 60 days, depending on the engineers work load and the apparent interest in the product. If you would be interested in running Unix on your Amiga, please get in touch with me. I need to know several things from each person: 1. Are you an individual user or do represent some sort of company? 2. If you are with a company, how many units would you be interested in purchasing? 3. What is your experience with Unix? 4. What sort of support would you need/expect? 5. Would you consider buying the system if little (free) support was offered. The last two questions may seem odd. Basically, Synergy is worried about being swamped with calls from people who know very little about Unix. I suggested that a good user's manual would probably save them a lot of money asnd headaches in the long run. However, they are still concerned about just how much support they would need to offer since this would be their first product in the personal computer market. If we can round up enough interested parties, we can all have Unix. But we need to get evidence that it would be a good idea. If there are people out there (besides myself) who would be willing to answer questions about the system once we had it, that would make Synergy's job that much easier. So please, get in touch with me if you're interested and maybe we can pull this off. Dan Arpa: djz@spice.cs.cmu.edu Uucp: {decwrl seismo ucbvax harvard}!spice.cs.cmu.edu!djz
