[net.unix] Update on CDC 9772 drives

dms@HERMES.AI.MIT.EDU (David M. Siegel) (08/04/86)

We got in our CDC 9772 drives (850 MBytes each!) and Emulex SC7003
controller. They've worked out fine. The standard mods to hp.c were
all that was required to get them going (adding new constants for the
partition sizes).

One minor hitch did developed. Berkeley Unix 4.2 limits the size of a
partition to 512 Mbytes. Actually, it's the page table entry that
creates this limitation. In any case, don't try to use any partition
that's greater than 512 Mbytes until you upgrade to 4.3 BSD. Using
"g" and "h" instead of "c" avoids this problem.

They help reduce the trade deficit as well.
