[net.unix] UNIX CLUSTERS

seb022@tijc02.UUCP (Scott Bemis ) (10/24/86)

In the February 1986 The DEC Professional magazine, there is
an article on p. 24 "UNIX CLUSTERS". This article briefly describes
how to create UNIX Clusters with the System Industries Multiple Access
Control System (SIMACS) 9920 Cluster Controller.
Has anyone used this SIMACS 9920 Cluster Controller to create true UNIX
clusters for VAX 11/78Xs running AT&T UNIX V Release 2 Version 2.0?
A true UNIX Cluster means that two or more VAXes can have read/write
capability on the same file system. How much modification of the O.S.
was required (in terms of code, amount of time & people)?
I definitely need the read/write capability on one file system by
many VAXes. I already have the capability to read one file system
from many VAXes (and read/write capability from only one VAX). This
causes one VAX to be heavily loaded, as the programmers need to write
to a particular file system (And due to certain constraints, I can not
split this file system into two separate file systems).
