(I wanted to sent this to net.db, but it wasn't in our ngfile...) Some found poetry, from the version 6 kernel ("sys1.c"): /* * Release resources. * Save u. area for parent to look at. * Enter zombie state. * Wake up parent and init processes, * and dispose of children. */ exit(rv) . . . /* * Wait system call. * Search for a terminated (zombie) child, * finally lay it to rest, and collect its status. * Look also for stopped (traced) children, * and pass back status from them. */ wait() Even dead babies can be found in UNIX! #R:watmath:-401400:tekcad:8600001:000:633 tekcad!franka Dec 13 09:58:00 1982 This move of information on dead babies to net.suicide is VERY obnoxious! If you want to do something constructive, instead of sending items on dead babies to net.suicide (most of whose readers also subscribe to net.db), send them to net.general. Maybe your system administrator (who must be an asshole to turn off net.db) will turn net.db back on. Net.suicide is for suicides only. The only dead baby info that I want to see is if a baby actually takes his own life!
