[ The demise of net.db, apparently now permanent, compels me to post this followup item to net.suicide, the nearest viable alternative. ] Another in the long line of organic additives hyped by the merchandisers (lanolin, chlorophyl, lemon, musk, honey, jojoba,...) appears to be catching on: On the side of a package of Neo-Synephrine nose drops, in large pink letters, it says 1/8% infants --Charlie Harris, Bell Labs, Murray Hill (rabbit!xchar)

Mr. Harris is not to be commended for posting his (to some, revolting) articles to a serious newsgroup. But then, what can he do? This is another example of a common newsgroup phenomenon. When net.jokes.q was deleted, filthy jokes immediately started turning up on net.jokes. Now that net.db is gone, dead-baby articles turn up on net.suicide. Who is killing all these newsgroups?

My gratitude to alice!rhm for expressing his sympathy for my quandary in seeking a proper resting place for a followup to his article in a now-defunct newsgroup. Just before net.db suffered its (to borrow research!dmr's phrase) "premature demise," I proposed broadening net.db's charter to encompass ALL dead topics. I noted that it could then serve as the net.followup to net.suicide. Little did I imagine that just the opposite would so soon come to pass! --Charlie Harris, Bell Labs, Murray Hill (rabbit!xchar)
