interesting thought. do you suppose moslem countries have suicide hotlines
too then? not for preventing suicide, but for taking volunteers! seems to
me that if there is some stigma attached to wanting to end it all you could
at least pick up a few brownie points by taking some infidels with you.

but this still doesn't answer my original question!

In reply to a rather bigoted query about the Moslem position on suicide,

Jesus Christ! (if you'll pardon the expression)

I can't believe the amount of anti-Moslem sentiment in the States. Don't you
people realize that the Moslems you hate so much, like the Shi`ite terrorists,
are religious and political extremists? Their views, practices, and laws can
no more be taken as indicative of Islam than Jerry Falwell and the Inquisitors
can be of Christianity. If you are *really* interested in knowing the
mainstream Moslem position on suicide, instead of just cracking bigoted jokes,
post to net.religion.

holy shi`ite!

now who's bigoted? i think shi`ite islam fundamentalists in iran would take
exception to your characterization of them as terrorists. nevertheless, you
can't very well dispute the fact that their religion condones the enlistment
of children to become cannon/mustard gas fodder in the iran/iraq holy war.
(what's that war about, anyway? "you know, abdul, that land-grab your
ancestors pulled 2500 years ago really burns me up.."?)

who knows, if the moslem position on suicide really is similar to the christian
one, sending suicide prevention volunteers to the mideast might be even a better
idea than exporting lawyers to japan.
