the following submissions lead to an obvious conclusion: >> This kind of bilge is a part of Japanese culture, >> and sometimes they act on it. > >do you drive an automobile? >Jack Moore, a New Jersey attorney tells us: > >Suicide is still illegal because its accomplishment increases the >probablility that others will commit the act. Assuming that the number >of suicides increases, the level of organization, productivity, >etc., in society generally decreases, affecting individuals adversely. > >(How refreshing to get an answer from a REAL lawyer, don't you think?) absolutely! i think mr moore's american legal mind has hit the nail precisely on the head. i know it's difficult to distinguish cause from effect from synergy, but i would certainly not attempt to argue that japan suffers from a lack of organization or productivity. after all, wouldn't it be silly to contrast the japanese tendency to kill oneself after committing a grevious error with the american tendency to get promoted for same? you can't breed excellence by removing error from the gene pool any more than you could breed teela browns (see ringworld by larry niven) by mating generations of lottery winners. nahhh. perhaps mr moore could be persuaded to open a practice in japan.
