I apologize in advance to those who have seen this before. It did not make it out to the net, and so is being re-submitted. Here are some measurements I made on a VT100 with both Printer Port as well as Advanced Video Options and a VT100 with only the AVO. Terminal Smooth / Jump Time for VT100 Time for VT100 Speed Scrolling with PPO without PPO 4800 Smooth 26.5 26.5 4800 Jump 14.5 14.5 9600 Smooth 26.5 26.5 9600 Jump 14.5 8.5 I'll let the numbers speak for themselves. The measurements were made by typing 'cat FILENAME' for a file of 154 lines of varying lengths containing 991 words totalling 6357 characters while measuring the time to dump the file on the terminal with a stop-watch. Each measurement was taken at least twice and on the PPO, the speed on the Printer Port was set at both 300 Baud as well as 19200 Baud with no change in the observed values. The values for the VT100 with PPO were further verified with TERM set both to VT100 as well as VT132. The PPO therefore actually seems to hinder overall performance while adding some useful escape sequences. K.S. Bhaskar John Fluke Mfg. Co., Inc.
