Wanted: 1200 baud modem, Bell-212 compatible I want to buy some 212 clones. Low price is desirable; small size and good reliability are more important. Auto-answer capability would be nice, if it is switch-selectable, but I can do without it. Please send me mail about any good and/or poor modems you've used. I will summarize the results and post them in a week or so. Thanks; Bill Stewart houxf!govern ucbvax!ihnss!houxf!govern decvax!harpo!houxf!govern

I have been using the Auto-Link 212 by U.S. Robotics for about five months and have had no problems with it at all. The Auto-Link 212 has 0-300 and 1200 baud and auto-answer (switch selectable). It does not have auto-dial (the Auto-Dial 212, I think they call it, has this). It sells for about $575. It has front panel switch controls for speed selection, analog loopback self test mode, originate/answer mode, and power. Front panel LED's monitor carrier, sent data, received data, power, speed (useful in answer mode where the originator determines the speed), and some other things I can't remember right off. It is easy to use and I have been very happy with it.
