I am thinking about buying a Qume VT102 (not a DEC lookalike) and U.S
Robotics Password modem for home use. I have been using the pair for about
a week and am pretty satisfied.

My biggest bitch is that some keys on the keyboard seem to bind when pressed
"off-axis". Seems like something a little lube would fix, but since its
only a borrowed terminal... Qume says the keyboard binding problem has been
fixed in later keyboards. The other complaint about the terminal is that
reverse video/underline mode require that a mode change character be placed
in the display-- this leaves an extra blank every time you change modes.
Makes nice nroff output look ugly. I use the foreground/background
(bright/dim) mode for standout and leave the ugly underlines.

The Password modem is 212a with a Hayes subset control protocol. I have had
no troubles with the modem.

Does anyone on the net have any strong opinions on either of these products
for screen editing at home? Byte ad prices are about $550 for the terminal
and $377 for the modem (likely higher for quick delivery!). Anyone know of
any better deals?
