[net.info-terms] Modular Plugs on Terminals -- warning

minow@decvax.UUCP (Martin Minow) (02/06/84)

Just because the keyboard and screen are connected by what looks
like a telephone extension cord with modular plugs, don't assume
you can use a telephone extension cord to move the keybord further
away. The current levels of some of the signals may well exceed
the capacity of the cord, and you may have a non-working keybord
as a result.

For example, the cord Dec uses to connect the keybord to the
screen in the DECmate II, Rainbow, Professional, and VT200 series
is specially made for this application with appropriate current
capacities.

Also, of course, try to resist the temptation to plug it
into a telephone jack.
