[net.info-terms] Using SmartComII/IBM-PC dialup UNIX and VI => termcap

rchrd@well.UUCP (Richard Friedman) (08/02/85)

I am logging into a UNIX BSD 4.2 system at 1200 baud using
an IBMPC and Hayes SmarcomII emulating either a vt100 or
what they call a televideo subset. When I set my TERM to
vt100 I can get vi to almost work. Problem is that it loses
track of where the first line is and leaves the cursor on the
2nd line thinking its the first.
Has anyone out there figured out the correct termcap set for
either vt100 or televideo subset as defined by Hayes Smarcomm ??

Are you turning off the Smartcom menu bar at the bottom of the screen?
I have had luck emulating a vt100 on a V7/4.2 machine this way.

You have to choose DIRECT as opposed to FORMATTED i/o (i can't remember
what their term for it is, but it is done by editing the PARAMETERS
of the SET something or other).

Failing that, then I don't know what the problem is.

I hope this vagary helps.
