My work group recently acquired 3270 PC's and I have a question about using an A/B switch for the COAX cable input. We all have these switches just before the end where the cable plugs into the back of the PC. When we want to switch between an 'A' and a 'B' session, we must (apparently), change the switch setting on the A/B and then warm boot. This seems a bit excessive to me... Oh yes, you must have a 3270 type window as the active one before the warm boot. If you're on a PC window, only a cold boot will wake up the other controller. Is there a better way? On regular 3278 terminals, one need only flip the 'test' switch from normal to test and back to normal after changing the A/B. The PC has a test button on the keyboard (alt something or other), but it does not seem to perform the same function. What I surmise is that the normal/test/normal switching (or the reboot on the PC) sends an interrupt to the 3274 controller and so it knows you're there. I have been unable to locate any documentation which speaks to this, nor have out support people been very much help. 3270 PC's are 'non-standard' here, so they get less support than anything else. Would appreciate any ideas or suggestions. I realize this model PC is not in wide use, but thought someone may have already passed this hurdle. By the way, we're using version 1.2x of the control program. I know there's a later version, but we haven't started to use it yet.
