I recently purchased a Televideo 955 terminal through Televideo's special offer in Mini-MicroSystems magazine. At $400 (includes shipping) it seemed like a very good deal, since I've seen it sell for retail at over $500. Televideo's ad makes a point of comparing the 955 to the Wyse 50 and 50+; the Wyse 50 seems to sell for around $450. There was one (intentional) slip-up on Televideo's part- I specifically ordered the amber screen, and the shipping box indicated amber screen. The attached packing slip was typewritten "amber screen", but (horrors!) someone had crossed out the "amber" and substituted "green" in neatly handwritten lettering. This after being told in December that I'd have to wait until January for amber. (Green was available immediately.) It cost $16 for UPS ground delivery from California to Massachusetts, and vice versa I suppose, so I decided to stay with the green screen- I like it anyhow. Enough net.consumer'ing here. What I'd like to know is what other netters think about the 955, has anybody gotten the graphics option, any complaints? Also, why did Televideo sell it so cheaply? Are they dumping in order to pave the way for price reductions on their DEC VT220 compatible? Or is the computer peripheral market that cold? In the ad they say "If you're a computer professional, MIS manager, or VAR, you've got until February 28, 1986 to order...". When they took my order over the phone, they didn't ask for my credentials. I guess anyone who reads Mini-MicroSystems must be a computer professional (:-). What about it, folks?
