[net.eunice] uucp under Eunice

lee@rochester.UUCP (Lee Moore) (09/30/83)

I am trying to bring up UUCP under Eunice. The document we have
is from Lou Salkind which says they have never tested uucico
as the initiator of conversations. We want VMS to contact a Unix system.
Any help or words of wisdom would be appreciated. Right now, I am
trying to get UUCP to even open the tty line. I don't think the Eunice
here was installed very well.

Thanks!

Hi,

Can some Eunice guru give me some pointers as to how to
get uucp running under eunice?

Our Eunice "uucp" seems to be working well now, and I can make our
command files available if anyone is interested. These require only
a binary license.

We poll and are called by 6 sites, and CPU's of 4? different manufacturers,
and receive netnews. These command files are for the uucp portion only.

These solve many problems, such as:
 * /usr/lib/uucp/.XQTDIR getting blown away,
 * Modem refuses to hang up after polling,
 * Need to shut off uuxqt to do news expire,
 * Getting the Hayes modem to dial,
 * Polling on schedule and on demand,
 * Running uucp in its own account (not as system),
 * Keeping uuxqt around without wasting cpu time (faster response, less clutter)
 * Waiting for the outgoing modem to be available,
 * Setting the protections and ownerships.
 * log files accumulating in sysmgr's home directory.

We're very interested in the system. We've been running Eunice for about 6
months and can't figure out how to get uucp to work.

We have just started installing EUNICE on our VAX 11/780 and we would be
very interested in hearing how you got UUCP to work. I have not begun to
mess with UUCP under EUNICE yet, but I would appreciate knowing what I am
up against.
