Would someone please tell me about eunice and VMS V4. A nearby site, not on the net, just went to V4 and they have the V4 version of eunice. After several days of eunice installation, they still can not get mail or Macsyma to work. Evidently the Macsyma people say that it just won't work until Eunice gets staightened out. What the the scoop? Is there any hope? This site plans to fall back to VMS 3.7 because they need Macsyma. Is there any trouble falling back? They have a system disk and a user disk. They have a backup of the V3 system disk and want to reload that. Are there any problems with the user disk that was updated for over a week with V4? Are long file names just truncated? I thank you and they thank you for any info that you can provide. Kurt Ruthmansdorfer U Wisconsin-Academic Computing Center 608-263-8043 {allegra,ihnp4,seismo}!uwvax!uwmacc!kurt

Eunice under V4 is a bear. And to boot, we had a flakey distribution tape... If the site plans to drop back to V3, they should do the obvious full dumps. Long file names under V3 make the file completely inaccessible. -- Tony Li ;-) Usc Computer Science Uucp: ...!{{decvax,ucbvax}!sdcsvax,hplabs,allegra,trwrb}!sdcrdcf!uscvax!tli Bitnet: tli@uscvaxq, tli@jaxom, tli@ramoth Csnet: tli@usc-cse.csnet Arpa: tli@usc-ecl.arpa
