Boy this upgrade is turning into a real mess... Has anybody out there got UUCP working under V4 Eunice? Problems I'm fighting right now: O /usr/spool/uucp/LOGFILE gets trashed real bad. Lots and lots of garbage characters (NULL's) and garbage lines in there. O has anybody gotten the uucp images (uucico, startuucp, etc.) to install with the proper privileges? am i facing the dreaded "underscore in a device logical" problem here? O does anybody know if L.cmds works and how to use it? it would be great if it does. i've been sponging off a neighbor in the past for patched uuxqt executables. Other problems I'm having but haven't dug into enough to see if it is just some stupid mistake on my part: O cvtuaf gets very unhappy and gives up on clustered disks O etc:login is truncating the /etc/ttytype information stuffed into TERM And a flame for good measure: O finger got broke in V4. It has the same problems w and who had in the prior rev (e.g. a disorderly logout doesn't update the user databases). Too bad, finger was such a useful utility when it was reliable. And for balance: O the new filename hashing is pretty trick. ls /usr/spool/uucp takes a fraction of the time it used to. Any suggestions, comments, or core dumps on my uucp problems would be greatly appreciated. -- Chip Rosenthal, Intel/Santa Clara, (408) 496-7651 {intelca,idi,pyramid,qubix,cbosgd}!t12tst!chip

The cvtuaf problem is that it is belching on device names with embedded $ or other special characters. While it ought to be possible to get TWG to fix this in the mean time make sure that there a device names in /dev and / which are <=14 characters long, all lower case letters and digits, which translate as logical names into the real devices on which accounts reside.
