I will be distributing a new version of talk (the alternative to write) in the next few days. A number of bugs have been fixed, a number of new features have been added and it has been reformatted to the standard "UN*X" program format. ********************************************************* * Note: This program will run on Berkley systems ONLY! * ********************************************************* Sorry about that, all you sites running something else, but the central feature of the program that makes it work is MULTIPLEXED FILES. If your system does not have them, then you are out of luck. Vanilla UN*X does not provide any inter-process communication facility (except between parent and child processes) I AM sorry about the confusion after the first release. As soon as we get our copy of Berkley 4.2, I will be upgrading talk to run using sockets. I will probobly mail out diff -e scripts, so save a copy of the program now.
