[net.sources] Televideo 970 termcap entry for revision E firmware

wls@astrovax.UUCP (11/01/83)

This is a reposting of the termcap entry for the Televideo 970 revised to work
with Version E firmware. The earlier termcap entry I posted was for version D
firmware. The two firmware versions are not completely compatible.
We acquired the version E roms from Televideo after complaining that one of
our terminals locks up when the keyboard is used when the computer is sending
to the terminal. Alas, that did not fix the problem.
None of the terminals really works well at 19,200 baud. The visible bell
given here only marginally works. This was the same visible bell given with the
Revision D termcap version but works much worse with the revision E firmware.
The main symptom is that one gets no visible bell. Inserting padding
characters tends to put crud on the screen. If anyone has a better visible bell
I would like to to know. Possibly some of the entries could use padding, but I have not had the time or the will-power to do the exhaustive testing to find
out which one's and how much. Again if anyone does this I would like to know.

We have a bunch of tvi970s using a termcap entry I threw together long
ago. It seems to work ok but thanks for the new entries! One thing I
noticed that is a must if you run 19.2k is to use the stty option
called "decctlq". (4.X BSD only I believe) This option means only
restart suspended output (from an ^S) when a *start* (^Q) char is
received (the default is any time a char is received). This is a must
because without it if you are typing at the editor just as it is
redrawing the screen it totally looses its cookies (from overrun).

One thing really bothers me. Although the terminal comes with several
pages of memory the stupid firmware only scrolls in one window at a
time. What I would like is something similar to the HP 2621A where you
can flip back to look at things after they scroll by (the hp uses all
the pages on a scroll basis). I used the HP for a year and really got
used to that feature. Anybody know how to make it do that? Also, how
do you tell what rev firmware you got? Tnx.. With all this brain
damaged firmware I would love to get a copy of the firmware and FIX it!
(use the source Luke...) Is Televideo listening out there!!!!!!!

PS: This is not meant to be a flame against TVI terminals. I have
done that in the past with the early HP 2621B but it truly deserved it.
