August 28, 1984 Does anyone have information about SUMMAC? This compiler for the Macintosh evidently was posted to the net a while ago but no one has been able to tell me when. I assume that SUMMAC is a c compiler that runs on a system other than a Mac and transfers the executable code to the Mac. I use a VAX 11/780 that runs UNIX System V. Any and all help would be appreciated. Scotty -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scott Allen ATT-IS Orlando, Florida ..!abnjh!nova

The SUMacC sources have not been posted to the net because of their size (megabytes, I believe). Also they run on 4.2BSD, and depend on an existing (unpublished?) 68000 C compiler. Could some brave USENET make SUMacC sources available for uucp? I am more than willing to port SUMacC to System V, and can repost the results. Any takers? The 68000 C compiler used in SUMacC is based on PCC and hence comes under the AT&T license. That's another good reason why it hasn't been posted. Also, it's still officially "beta test". True there haven't been any bug fixes lately but there have been enhancements to the rmaker quite recently. I know that plans are afoot to make the environment more available once it leaves "beta" status. In other words, based on a conversation I had down at Stanford two weeks ago, it is clear that a mechanism is being set up for its distribution. --Rick

[] SUMMAC has to be the Stanford Univ. Mighty MACkintosh C Compiler? Needless to say, we are interested in getting it. HOW? -- {decvax,philabs}!mcvax!enea!log-hb!hans Hans Albertsson, TeleLOGIC AB Box 1001, S-14901 Nynashamn, SWEDEN
