I can't believe that nroff and the -man macros are not supplied with UNIX by AT&T. They developed it. What do they use for documentation? I would prefer to have the nroffable version, so that it can be properly formatted with boldface and italics. It also makes it easier to update documentation. -- Ken Turkowski @ CADLINC, Menlo Park, CA UUCP: {amd, decwrl, hplabs, seismo, spar}!turtlevax!ken ARPA: turtlevax!ken@DECWRL.ARPA

What do they use for documentation? nroff is still available as optional (layered) software, in the DWB package. This is one of the items that got unbundled. UNIX System V licensees who upgraded before 01-Apr-1984 were generally offered the DWB package "free" (ha) as part of the upgrade to Release 2.0.

Please DO use nroff sources. If you preformat them, you are making assumptions about the printers we have. Our printer has a 72 line page. You can imagine the hassle this can cause with preformatted stuff. That's the whole idea behind having a thing like nroff in the 1st place. How on earth do AT&T process their manual pages? -- Scott Larnach unix: {ukc,hwcs,kcl-cs,glasgow,ucl-cs,edcaad}!cstvax!scott jnt: scott@uk.ac.ed.cstvax S.Larnach@uk.ac.ed arpa: scott@cstvax.ed.ac.uk snailmail: ERCC, King's Buildings, Mayfield Road, Edinburgh, UK tephelone: +44 31 667 1081 x2629
