[net.sources] wanted: data entry system

era@hao.UUCP (Ed Arnold) (01/22/86)

Before I give up and write it myself (sigh!), I'd like to know if
anyone knows of a data entry system which runs under UN*X. By
"data entry system", I mean something that has most of the functions
of a 129 keypunch, including:

	o duplication of fixed columns
	o skipping of fixed columns
o input of alphabetic, alphanumeric, or numeric data
	  in fixed columns
	o verification
o programming simple enough for a clerical person
	  (like the 129's drum card)

In fact, what we're looking for will replace a 129 keypunch.
We run a Cray/IBM/UN*X-box shop here; much of the data prepared
for the Crays or IBMs requires fixed card-image format.

We've located a couple of systems that have suitable functionality,
e.g. KeyPlus from Infolink Software, but these systems tend to
be expensive (more than $5000 for a binary), and run on an IBM
mainframe or PC.

If you know of something, please respond to me via e-mail. I will
produce a summary on the net within 30 days if there are any
responses. Thanks in advance for your help!
