Apologies for cross-posting this to net.sources, but this seems to be
the only way to reach some people.
PLEASE people! net.sources is for SOURCE CODE ONLY! This newsgroup
has fallen to a new low lately; for every source posting, there are
five or ten requests for larn patches, or ARC sources, or debates
about soundex algorithms. None of this stuff belongs in net.sources!
The appropriate newsgroups to use for non-source code postings are:
net.sources.bugs Postings of bug fixes
net.sources.d Discussions (debates, flames) about sources
net.wanted.sources "Does anyone have larn part III version 19?"
net.micro.pc Discussions about IBM-flavor personal computers
Following is a list of sites from which inappropriate net.sources
postings have emanated during the last month. (I've removed user
names to prevent personal embarrassment.) Would the system
administrators at these sites PLEASE make sure that their users are
aware of Usenet etiquette, and especially that they're aware that
net.sources is for SOURCE CODE ONLY?
I've directed followups to net.news.group, where they belong. ARPANET
or BITNET users who can't get net.news.group should send me mail if
they want to discuss this. Do NOT followup to net.sources!
