I might mention that a few years back, a Grandmaster demonstrated that he didn't know castling queenside was legal when the rook moved over an attacked square (but not the king). In this case the b8/b1 squares are the ones. What happened was that his opponent had a good attack going, and the GM could have castled to get out of it. Instead, he resigned. Later, he pointed out that he had, in fact, looked at the castling move but discarded it as illegal. Stuart
