In the most recent Olympiad, the USSR won again with 42.5 pts. Czechslovakia was second with 36, the US third with 35.5 and Yugoslavia 4th with 35. When the USSR played Switzerland, Karpov rested and Kasparov beat Korchnoi in a game decribed as brilliant by the Boston Glob chess columnist. In the Women's Olympiad the USSR won with 22 pts. with Sweeden second with 19.5. Coming up December 26th-30th in Columbus, OH, the 1982-83 Pan-American Intercollegiate Team Championship, open to teams of 4 + 2 optional alternates who are registered at a college in the Americas in pursuit of a degree.
