In response to someone's request a few days ago for a review of the new Supertramp album, I thought I'd post a few thoughts, even though I've only listened to it a couple of times. My initial reaction is: if you thought Crime_of_the_Century was their best album, buy Brother_Where_You_Bound; if you liked Breakfast_in_America or Famous_Last_Words, think twice and be sure to listen to the album when you get a chance. I'm not knocking any Supertramp album, I like them all enough to go out and replace my albums with CDs, but Brother_Where_You_Bound is far more like the first few Supertramp albums than the last few. As a matter of fact, Rick Davies stated in a radio show I recently heard, that his intention was to make an album like Crime_of_the_Century. There are a few disturbing things about Supertramp sans Roger Hodgson, the most prominent being the lack of vocal interplay between Davies and Hodgson. On the other hand, the album has a more instrumental feel by using more woodwinds, brass, and piano. Sorry, I really can't comment on many of the individual songs as I haven't heard them enough, but the general feel of the album is like the single "Cannonball". The only real standout in my mind was the title track, because it is an almost 17 minute long opus along the lines of "Fool's Overture". Hope this points any prospective buyers in the right direction. Oh, by the way, I bought the CD at only $12.99 (not on sale). ---------- "...but you've got no arms and no legs, what are you going to do, bleed all over me ..."
