From: ddw (David Wright) To: net-tv Thunderbirds was a Gerry & Sylvia Anderson production about a team called "International Rescue" that was headquartered on a Pacific Island. The head of the team was Jefferson Tracy, and the operations staff was his sons (Scott, Virgil, Gordon, Alan, and John(?)). Also featured were Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward and her chauffeur Parker (British, of course) and Kyrano and Tin-tin (?) the Tracy family servant and his daughter. The International Rescue lads went bombing around in various superduper vehicles numbered 1-5. One was this ultrafast rocket-ship style jobbie that could go about 15K mph and was primarily intended to get someone on the scene fast. Two was a heavy-duty load-lifter that carried all the big equipment to the scene. Three was the rocketship used to get to Five, which was a space station, and Four was a submarine vehicle. The IR squad was always being called in for these impossible rescue missions, at which they always succeeded at the last minute. Stingray was another show by the same group about a super-submarine. They were pitted against various baddies, but I don't remember the details. I got acquainted with the show when I was in Australia for a year. I did see it on tv back here when I returned (around 1968) but not often. While in Australia, I picked up several Thunderbirds novels and one Stingray novel, but I no longer remember the details. (Andy Tannenbaum has chided me for failing to recall Fireball XL5. Sorry, Andy. Can't remember them all. I remember having watched the show and could even recall a few lines from the theme song, but I don't remember much about it.)
