I remember at least one "Banana Man" who used to appear on Captain
Kangaroo, I think only on the Saturday show. I believe that this
really was Bob Keeshan (the Captain) in a different outfit. After
all, he did get his start as Clarabelle the Clown on "Howdy Doody."
He used to extract vast numbers of bananas, watermelons, etc. from
various pockets, and did arrive and depart via toy train. (This is
hardly the last word on the subject; is anyone's memory better than
mine?)
