I've already submitted this to net.comics, but after seeing an inquiry along the same lines here, I've decided to try here with an ammended version: ____________________________________ Does anyone out there in net-land remember those old superhero cartoons that Marvel and DC used to put out? I don't mean the recent Spiderman and Hulk nonsense or that pantywaist Justice League (Superfriends). I'm talking about the old "Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure" where they had 10 minute shorts with the likes of Flash, GL, Atom, Hawkman, the old (sigh) Teen Titans, and JLA. And what about the Marvel half-hour adventures starring Cap, Hulk, Shellhead, Namor, and a certain beloved Norse Thunder God? I believe a Fantastic Four cartoon existed at this time also. Anyway, it's been at least 10 years since I've seen any of these, and I was wondering if anyone knows whether they can still be found anywhere on TV. Are there any animation festivals where they might be shown or (God forbid) highlighted? Do they show them at Comic conventions? Are video cassettes available? (You never know. It's better than most of the trash they market nowadays). How about "revivals" on HBO or such? This came up in a conversation I had with a friend when we were discussing old cartoons (Long Live Clutch Cargo!), and it got me wondering about the fate of these gems. Granted, they weren't the greatest quality story or animation-wise, but some of the voices were classics, and this is the only place some of these heroes appeared outside of the comic books. Besides, I have a large nostalgia gland... Any help (suggestions or ideas, even) would be welcomed. S. J. Berry ..!houxz!disc BTL-Holmdel

Now I'd like to help out on the original question, that of remembering the theme songs from the old Marvel superhero cartoons. I only recall a line here and there, but perhaps they will serve to further jog someone ELSE's memory. **** Sub-Mariner: "...is Namor of Atlantis (or something) and the Prince of the Sea." (really, the last line is all I remember) **** Captain America: "When Captain America throws his mighty shield..." **** Iron Man: not a glimmer... **** Thor: ditto **** Hulk: "Doc Bruce Banner, Belted by gamma rays, Turns into the Hulk, Isn't he (glamourous?)..." **** I wish I knew more (don't we all!); as I say, it's the kind of thing I'd recognize, but...Hope someone else has more luck. When Captain America throws his mighty shield He knows all those who oppose his shield must yeild. (There was more to this one...) Doc Bruce Banner Pelted by gamma-rays Turns into the Hulk Ain't he unglamo-rays? Threatens the town With the power of-a-bull Ain't no monster clown Who is as lov-a-ble As ever-lovin' Hulk! (Hulk! Hulk!) With lyrics like these it's no wonder we've all forgotten them. The memorable thing about "The Mighty Marvel Marching Society" was that the cartoons were made from the panels of the comics they were taken from and had a level of animation equivalent to cut-outs. In other words, when Namor swung a punch his whole arm swung as a stiff unit, as if it were a cardboard cut-out. Them wuz the days! -- David D. Levine (...decvax!tektronix!tekecs!davidl)
