[net.tv] more old TV

Well, Andy wins the 10 points for a correct response concerning
"Colonel Bleep".

As for "Lariat Sam", his horse's name was, uh, "Tippytoes" I
believe, and Bad Lands Meany's sidekick was ... "Bushwack".

I think that Maynard from "Dobie Gillis" would be best described
as a beatnik:

Dobie's Father: Why don't you go get a job and do some work, Maynard?
  Maynard: WORK!!!?????

"Speed Racer" certainly had his moments -- interesting how all of the
productions from "Mushi" had similar faces on all characters -- others
included "Astro Boy" and "Kimba (the white lion)".

  Here he comes.
  Here comes Speed Racer...
  He's a deamon on wheels!
He's a daemon and he's gonna be chasing after someone...

"The Big World of Little Atom" was indeed an educational animated
segment:

Big world, little atom, big world little atom [continues in backround]

Oh's it's the big world, of little atom,
The [something something] world, of little atom.
  He's up in space.
  He's everyplace.
Oh it's the big worrrrrrrrrrld... of little atom.

How about "Winky Dink and You"? This was the show where you were
supposed to sit up against your TV and draw in stuff on the screen
(on a plastic sheet that you had taped to the screen) to help the
characters at various points. Real healthy with those old TV's.
Good thing there were few color sets back then...

Indeed I do remember Windy Dink. There was an episode where we were supposed
to draw a sled to allow Winky Dink to ride on. I drew it, and a good rendition
if I recall. There was only one hitch: we didn't own one of the Winky Dink
magic shields (or whatever they were called). Mom traces that as the moment
when I wanted to work with computers, so I could "write on a tv screen" without
being yelled at.

OK campers, what were the various characters on the SOUPY SALES SHOW!!!!!
It was so popular that ARCHIE comics came out with a SOUPY SALES comic.
"Ok kids, go to your fathers wallets and take out all the green stuff and
send it to Uncle Soupy" and a bunch of them did, too!

Yeah, Winky Dink was great. I remember being at my grandparents
one morning drawing all over my grandparents TV screen and then discovering
that the "magic plastic thing" had not been installed. Luckily my grandfather,
being a minister, was into forgiveness.
