I've had two responses to this trivia and both guessed the
Texas Rangers.
Close, but no cigar!
The "26 Men" were ARIZONA rangers and their leader was portrayed by
......I think, Tris Coffin.

I think the time frame of this series was in the early to
middle sixties and was relatively short-lived, like 3-6 months.
