[net.tv] More old TV themes

nathan@mit-eddie.UUCP (Nathan Glasser) (08/31/83)

I just spent several hours reading the hundreds of messages in net.tv
from the last week and a half. After I saw someone post the theme to Spiderman
incorrectly, I was going to send in what I believed to be the correct version.
Then in a later article someone else gave his version of the theme, also
somewhat wrong. Then finally someone gave the correct version of the theme
(or close enough not to matter). Boy, is that disappointing. I was going to be
the first one to do it, but I was beaten by about a week. But that is not all.
As I was reading further I was thinking of other theme songs, and I was all set
to post the theme to F-Troop to the net when, to my disbelief, I found that
someone else had already posted the theme. It just goes to show you that
you have to keep up with the news, or otherwise even something you never
thought anyone else would think of posting may be posted (F-Troop).

Well, all I can say is that in the posted F-Troop theme,
"...some blood was shed..." should be "...some blood was spilled..."

And after forcing you to read this letter about how reading net-news can
be a big disappointment, I'll have to include something worth reading.
How about the theme song to Gilligan's Island:

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
a tale of a fateful trip,
which started from this tropic port
aboard this tiny ship.
The mate was a mighty sailed(??) man,
the skipper, brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day
for a three hour tour, a three hour tour.
The weather started getting rough;
the tiny ship was tossed.
If not for the courage of the fearless crew,
the Minnow would be lost, the Minnow would be lost.
The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle,
with Gilligan, the skipper too, the millionaire, and his wife,
the movie star, (*) the Professor and Mary Ann,
here on Gilligan's Isle.

(*) - There is more than one way the theme song is song on the
show. In an alternate version the rest of this line
      reads "and the rest".

Does any one remember the words to the closing theme of Gilligan's Island?
I can only remember part of it:

...
No phones, no lights, no motor cars,
not a single luxury.
Like Robinson Crusoe, it's primitive as can be.
So join us here each week my friend;
you're sure to get a smile, from seven stranded castaways,
here on Gilligan's Isle.

On another topic, it was mentioned that Bonanza has a theme song which
was sung once. It may be surprising to learn that Star Trek has a
theme song too. I don't claim that this theme song was sung in any
episode of the show, but in "The Making of Star Trek", by Stephen Whitfield and
Gene Roddenberry, the lyrics to Star Trek are given, and the writer
is listed as Gene Roddenberry.

Beyond
The rim of the star-light
My love
Is wand'ring in star-flight
I know
He'll find in star-clustered reaches
Love,
Strange love a star woman teaches.
I know
His journey ends never
His star trek
Will go on forever.
But tell him
While he wanders his starry sea
Remember, remember me.
