[net.tv] Alvin Toffler's THE THIRD WAVE on TV

bstempleton@watmath.UUCP (Brad Templeton) (09/19/83)

I just saw this new production. It's narrated by Toffler, and fairly
well put together. For most netters, it will not present any
tremendously new ideas, but would be a good program to show to computerphobes
you know.

The first half of the show is devoted to the distinction between "second wave"
(Industrial revolution) and "third wave" (Information based) society.
He harps a lot on the link he makes between conformity and the second wave,
and points out how the third wave means diversity and individuality.
It's not all one sided, though.

It gets a little more interesting later as he talks about why he thinks
we have to completely change our second wave government into a third one,
and he goes into a biting attack on how old our governmental systems are.

This was the world premiere, and I don't think it has been shown yet in the
USA. Check your listings.
