"Men into Space" was on for one year, from Sept 30, 1959 to Sept. 7, 1960 on Wednesday evenings on CBS from 8:30 to 9:00 (source: The Complete Directory of Prime Time Television Shows: 1946-Present). Yes, indeedy, the star was William Lundigan who played Col. Edward McCauley. Even though the show was science fiction, it tried to deal realistically with the problems an astronaut might encounter in space and on the moon. -- Walt Tucker Wilsonville, OR P.S. -- I don't know about the sliding doors and such, but much of the activity did take place on the moon.

geez... after all the responses re "Gee, the old LaSalle ran great" i expected some collective recollection of "men into space". is everybody out there under 35? well, as i recall, "men into space" starred William Lundigan as Col Robert(?) T McCaulley. the show started with a rocket lifting off and some text scrolling over it which ran something like "We are grateful to the United States Air Force and the Department of Defense for their co-operation in the creation of this dramatic new television program." does this memory of christmases long past jar anyone's memory? if not, does anybody remember a show of similar vintage, "the buccaneers"? ken perlow bell labs, naperville il. ..!ihuxq!ken

I have a very vague recollection of the program. I don't remember the characters' names or anything important like that... but I do seem to remember that it was sponsored by Lucky Strike cigarettes. Yes, I am under 35 (but not by much) Roger Bielefeld decvax!cwruecmp!cdcvax!rab
