Saturday Night Live will open in early October with the same cast as last season. Eddie Murphy will seldom be "live from New York", but is already filming bits. His absence will be plugged by: JIM BELUSHI (late of Pirates of Penzance, True West, and Trading Places) Remember, you (may have) heard it here first. --------------------------------------------------------------- Tom Dennehy BTL Whippany {clyde!tgd}

Hot Damn! Jim Belushi in SNL! Anyone see him in James Caan's movie about Mafia-type "family ties". Can't remember the name of the movie?

If Jim Belushi is in fact going to be a regular on Saturday Night Live (or even a guest), I'm not real sure how I feel about this. Forget the fact that, on the surface at least, it would seem to be a cheap attempt to further cash in on the late John Belushi's continuing popularity. I've seen Jim perform (live and on TV) and he can be a decent actor. So let's give him his due there. My problem is that that there are too many similarities between Jim and John. I'm not saying they're twins or anything. But they do look a lot alike. They also have similar voices. Furthermore, I've seen pictures of Jim clowning around and he is capable of doing many facial expressions which are identical to those that John used to do. Now, seeing Jim perform in the past hasn't botherd me. But I would really have problems watching him on SNL. For awhile anyway. I think it would be spooky, sort of like deja vu. Now I like Jim Belushi. I think he's a good actor and I hope he makes it big someday. But I don't think I'd like him on SNL. What do all of you SNL fans think out there? John V. Smith

The James Caan movie was "Thief" and Jim Belushi was excellent! I also saw him in "The Pirates of Penzance" the same day that John Belushi was found dead. He turned in a superb performance! I was amazed that he even performed that evening! He should be a very good addition to SNL and may help improve the show. I thought the show's only good points last year were Joe Piscopo and Eddie Murphy. Allen England at BTL, Naperville, IL ihnp4!ihuxb!alle

#R:iwu1d:-13500:uicsl:12200012:000:500 uicsl!twt Sep 28 23:50:00 1983 The whole thing sounds a bit like reverse discrimination to me. I'm not a big fan of SNL, and I don't know a whole lot about Jim Belushi, but if he's good at the type of comedy SNL does, I don't think the fact that he's John's brother should be held against him. Maybe they are alot alike, but as long as he's doing his own thing instead of imitating (or trying to cash in on) his brother, I don't think I should make a whole lot of difference. There have been a lot of clones on television.

#R:iwu1d:-13500:uiuccsb:12300006:000:419 uiuccsb!leimkuhl Sep 29 11:45:00 1983 Well, let's face facts here, Jim Belushi isn't really in the same comedy class as John was. Without his brother's name and reputation, he never would have picked up the several roles he's had in failed sitcoms and certainly wouldn't have landed a spot on SNL. This looks like just another cheap attempt by the now completely commercial SNL to boost the ratings a bit. Ben ("I remember '75 SNL") Leimkuhler

Jim Belushi is not as good at physical comedy as John Belushi, but he is very good at the time of comedy he does!! He is also a fine actor and a good singer!! I think you are being just too cynical!! Hey, give Jim Belushi a chance to show what he can do! Allen England at BTL, Naperville, IL ihnp4!ihuxb!alle
