[net.tv] Good Morning Mr. Orwell on PBS

peterr@utcsrgv.UUCP (Peter Rowley) (01/02/84)

I was impressed by the spirit behind PBS/WNET's "Good Morning, Mr. Orwell",
if not the results. It consisted of avant-garde performers in NYC, San
Francisco, and Paris singing, dancing, and playing instruments, live, with
the images mixed and modified by various video processors. George Plimpton
(!) hosted in NYC. Due to technical problems, some things didn't quite work
out, but I thought the Sanborn/Winkler videos worked well, esp. the background
to a song by either Oingo Boingo or Thompson Twins (I can't remember which).
The opening song/video, "This is the Picture" by Peter Gabriel and Laurie
Anderson (!!) was also quite good. This happened from noon-1pm EST, Jan. 1,
by the way.

All this is by way of introduction to two questions:

The event only ran 1 hour on the Buffalo PBS station (WNED 17) though it
was listed as running 3 hours. Did anyone see a 3 hour version of it?

Has anyone successfully written to a PBS station to get a VHS/Beta videotape
of a program? I expect I'd have to write to WNET for this one. I'd be very
grateful for an address for them.

thanks,
