This morning's financial page of the Newark Star Ledger reports that RCA and Kodak are getting into the hand-held VCR ("camrecorder") market. The concept is like the "Betamovie" where the camera itself holds the tape so that no separate VCR unit must be transported. Of course, it's still necessary to have a separate playback unit to view the results. RCA's will be made by Hitachi and will use standard VHS tapes and format. Price is about $1000 and deliveries are expected sometime in the second half of 84. Kodak's will be made by Matsushita (I think) and will use the new 8mm tape that has introduced by a few manufacturers. Price will be in the $1500 to $1800 range. Now my question: Canon, I believe, just introduced a camrecorder system like the RCA one. Has anyone had experience with these types of camera systems so that they could offer comments/criticisms?
