[net.chess] End of Tournament

no5db@ihuxl.UUCP (10/21/83)

Well, it looks like the first network chess tournament has come to
a screeching halt. As far as I can tell only one of the original eight games
has been finished, and another is still in progress. It looks as if the
original interest has completely died out. Since the tournament started
I have received requests from people asking if they could join. Since my
original intention was to limit the number of people to sixteen, I rejected
many of these requests. Maybe if someone out in net land is interested we
can get a second tournament started. ihuxe!rainbow had an idea for a tournament
of a completely different format, but also said he didn't have the time to
run the tournament. If someone is willing to try directing a tournament
maybe they should get in touch with him and discuss his idea.

Another idea could be to have small round robins, with people
that are truly interested in playing. If I could get three or five other people
who are **VERY** interested in playing, I might be willing to organize a
short round robin.

My apologies to Charles Ditzel and Gary Mager, the only two people
to finish a game. Maybe the next tournament will turn out better.

Well, gee, Lance, I tried. It was mail that killed us (and the fact
that my opponent went away until Oct. 20.
