On a scale of 1-5 *pifs* The New Show: *pi got old very quickly. It made me miss some of the worst of the SNL second incarnation. Domestic Life: *pif* *pif* It has a lot of potential, if they can downplay the snotty kid and start doing some original things (the kid, of course, is a Family Ties clone, but not nearly as good at being superious) David Letterman: *pif* *pif* *pi I finally stayed up and watched the David Letterman show (I cherish my sleep). When you consider that it is a Johnny Carson clone (the sets are so similar I laughed when I saw it) he has done a very good job at developing his own personality on the show. Its even occasionally funny. If you are insomniac, it is more than worth it. Johnny Carson's eye: *pif* *pif* *pif* *pif* *pif* For those that didn't know, Johnny had his stage crew install this enormous eye in the back of the tonight show set for the new years show, looking in through the window that shows the painting of the LA skyline (you can tell it is a painting because it isn't an opaque yellow blob). This was Johnny's subtle way of welcomming 1984. It did all sorts of neat tricks, such as blink, and was visible over Johnny's shoulder. What it did most effectivle was bother the hell out of the viewers, who don't seem to want to be reminded of Big Brother while watching the Tonight Show, because after a large number of letters, Johnny removed the eye the other night. For reminding his viewers what life COULD be like, five clouds of plaid smoke to Johnny and the Big eye staring back! -- From the house at Pooh Corner Chuqui (a Silly Old Bear) {fortune,menlo70}!nsc!chuqui I wish I had time to explain dimensional trancendentalism --- Dr. Who
