From: jsg@rlgvax.UUCP (Jeff Grunewald) ... who played Gran-ma-ma on the Addams family? ... As all of us who are old enough to remember when TV was still funny and each show was an origional, all know, it was Blossom Rock who played the part mentioned above. As houxf!dje pointed out, that was, as far as I know, her only role. I never saw her do anything else. Has anybody? I looked in `The Film Encyclopedia' by Ephraim Katz and found: "Rock, Blossom: see Blake, Marie" "Blake, Marie. Actress. b. Blossom MacDonald, Aug 21, 1896, in Philadephia. d. 1978. The older and much less famous sister of Jeanette MacDonald [!] [qv], she appeared in vaudeville and stock as Blossom Rock (a name she acquired by marriage)... She appeared in many segments of the ``Dr. Kildare'' series in the role of the wisecracking switchboard operator. In the late 50's she reacquired the professional name of Blossom Rock, under which she appeared as Granny in ``The Addams Family'' TV series and in several films of the 60s. "Films include: ... Calling Dr Kildare (1939), ..., Mourning Becomes Electra (1947), ..., The Second Time Around (1961), The Best Man (1964)..." [roughly 20 films are listed, from 1937 to 1964]. Glad to be of help (this was interesting! Jeanette MacDonald?!) -- Gordon A. Moffett { allegra, decvax!decwrl } !amd70!proper hplabs!intelca!proper!gam
