Wherever HSB was originally supposed to occur in, the writers probably did not feel bound to keep to that script. If they had meant to name the city, they could have done it -- as is done in shows like McCloud (NYC), Mary Tyler Moore (Minneapolis), Happy Days (TERRIBLE imitation of Milwaukee -- I never did find lookout point in all the years I lived there) and so on. I have already seen suggestions of Pittsburgh and Chicago. Some scenes that have Belker masquerading as a Hassidic Jew, could almost be New York, although people do go elsewhere as well. I would suggest HSB is a collage of cities, with most of the scenes done in CA. -- -=> Avi E.
