[net.tv] L.A. vs. N.Y. network TV

lauren@vortex.UUCP (Lauren Weinstein) (04/12/84)

The similarities are far reaching:

Network Channel L.A.	N.Y.
-------------------------------------
 CBS 2 KCBS	WCBS
 NBC 4 KNBC	WNBC
 ABC 7 KABC	WABC

It's also amusing to watch the news programs on, say, KNBC and WNBC.
They have almost identical sets, use the same musical cuts, and
have virtually the same name for the programs ("News 4 {L.A., New York}").
The air personalities (I refuse to call most of them newspersons) also
look almost the same and are essentially interchangeable. L.A. and
New York are THE markets for TV people -- the two places where everyone
wants to go eventually. Most of the network news people come from
these two markets as well, such as Tom Brokaw, Kelly Lange (who still
does occasional network programs) and others who were L.A. local
anchors. Kelly still anchors for KNBC here. Tom Snyder was an anchor
on KNBC for a long time -- wasn't he demoted from the network back
to some local news program in NY? I haven't seen hide nor hair
of him in ages, other than noticing that his name is spelled incorrectly
on his picture hanging in the hall at NBC in NY.
