[net.tv] St. Elsewhere: Season Finale... a few thoughts

I, too, thought the ring on the table was a nice effect, but it brought
up a question about the symbolism.

Does Jack taking off his wedding ring mean that he has finally accepted
Nina's death, and the fact that he has to move on, or does it mean that
he couldn't face being in bed with Clancy (Was that her name? She
didn't look Irish!) wearing it? I think it was the former.

I also liked the subplot (?) of Eric Laneauville (SP?, too) looking for
a Cheshire cat! He seems to be getting more involved in the show (as a
character), and I am glad! I think he adds a nice touch. Also! Will
Auchlander (sp?) die? I hope not!

Several interesting resolutions here: getting rid of Halloran seems to be a
statement to NBC that soap has no place at St. Eligius, except in the O.R.
washroom. Obviously, Stephen Furst is taking Kim Myori's place -- if he can
keep from playing his Animal House role too far, he should do well. The
obvious ones about Jack and Auchlander I need not point out... but I thought
it was nice all around. I imagine Terrance Knox will be back next year
(lawsuit & all... anyone know?), and I imagine Cathy Martin may also become
a regular... unless those notes about her wanting to become a psychiatrist
move her somewhere else.

Several nice moments: Jack and Pete going into the Cheers bar (would have
liked to see Cliff and Norm's reaction); whenever Craig becomes a bit more
human (excuse me, shows a bit more humanity) I approve; the ring on the
table was excellent (Bruce Paltrow, who used to do the photography on Lou
Grant and others, produces St. E. and seems to have a big push in its
photographic influence); and Westphall's talk to Luther at the end was
particularly appropriate, as Eric Launeville (sp?), who plays Luther, has
directed about half of this years episodes (if he's not in front of the
camera, he's behind it!).

Nice parting shot about them being around for "another year, at least". I
assume they will be? I believe this was the best show on TV this year; I
hope it isn't replaced by "V: The Endless Conflict". If it is, I'm gonna
hafta go to Brandon Tarketoff's office and rip off his human mask and tie
his forked tongue in a knot....
