Our independent station is airing a program Thursday night (8/16) at 8pm (central time) about that chest or safe they were going to open on live TV that they found on the Andrea Doria. This is supposed to be the show where they open it live, but I heard that was going to happen at least a year ago, it seems like two or three. Is anyone else getting this show at the same time (live)? They claim it's live, but I've heard nothing from any other sources about (seems the network or somebody would at least mention it, it IS interesting). I would expect a show like this to be on network instead of syndicated, too. Or should I blow it off and watch the Cowboys, instead? ('Course, my Cowboys have about as much chance of winning it all this year as I have of raising the Titanic with an Erector Set, but that's a topic for net.sport.football I guess...) ---- -King ARPA:ables@ut-ngp UUCP:{ctvax,ihnp4,kpno,seismo}!ut-sally!ut-ngp!ables

-- Someone didn't see the end and asked what they found (in the safe)? I did see the end and I STILL don't know exactly what they found, outside of a few wads of water-logged Italian lira (apparently not worth too much even when they went into the safe). Was there anything else interesting in there? I found the film of the voyage and search of the wreck fascinating, but the hoopla of opening the safe--mc'd by George Plimpton-- insufferable. I'd forgotten what an assh*le he is. -- *** *** JE MAINTIENDRAI ***** ***** ****** ****** 17 Aug 84 [30 Thermidor An CXCII] ken perlow ***** ***** (312)979-7261 ** ** ** ** ..ihnp4!ihuxq!ken *** ***

I was setting in a bar last night watching it with the sound turned off...not sure, but they didn't seem to get anything of much value. Then again, I was about 5 Bud's to the cosmos.

They used a special procedure to float out the money (about 50 $20 bills and some Italian Lira), and at the end someone stuck his hand down into the safe and apparently felt more money. But the procedure wouldn't have floated out any heavy items (packets of diamonds, etc.), and the show went off before they emptied the safe. It was an interesting show, but I kind of wonder why they opened the safe still in the water - I suppose so they could float out the money. If anyone ever *does* find out what was in it, please post.
