Well, SNL is back with almost a completely revamped cast (and some excellent additions), and my diagnosis is that the writing and skits have improved -- but not up to former standards (though it is somewhat better than last year, when Murphy/Piscopo(?) were the only two who could get a laugh). The writing is uneven, but when it's good, it IS funny. One of the major factors seems to be the host. The week before last, Bob Eucker (sp?), the "rotten" baseball player who appears in beer commercials was on, and suprisingly, he was excellent... the show moved along swiftly. Rev. Jesse Jackson was on this week, and unfortunately he seemed rather stiff (except during an analysis of RR's debate speeches, which was extremely well done); the whole show looked liked it was on pins and needles. My recommendation would be to watch it for two weeks to get a accurate idea of whether it works or not. "...in an iron coffin, with spikes on the inside!" Moriarty, aka Jeff Meyer John Fluke Mfg. For the Rev. Jackson show, I think that the network was trying to aviod anythingthat even smacked of partisanship (but how could you avoid that?). That show (10/20/84) had the best ratings and the most phone calls of any show in the last year. I liked the Jean Kirkpatrick sketch and the Billy Idol parody. Billy Crystal does a great Sammy Davis, Jr., and whenever he appears as Fernando, I immediately start rolling on the floor. Diane Wilkerson ..!hopd3!dvw "You look maaavelous!"
